This has been bugging me for a long time: What makes Sam Altman tick?
He appears to be a young version of Elon Musk, namely, a Technocrat. He is obviously cerebral, if not a genius, but he is also reckless, impulsive and deceptively anti-capitalist. He also speaks out of both sides of his mouth. These are all classic markers of a Technocrat.
In a recent Forbes interview about OpenAI and ChatGPT, Altman commented on capitalism:
I think capitalism is awesome. I love capitalism. Of all of the bad systems the world has, it's the best one — or the least bad one we found so far. I hope we find a way better one. And I think that if AGI really truly fully happens, I can imagine all these ways that it breaks capitalism.
He says he loves capitalism. Well, he says its the best of the worst. No matter though, AGI will break capitalism anyway. Bummer. Maybe it’s tough love to put it out of its inevitable misery?
To be replaced with what? Technocracy.
